I'm a dad of three children, and I admit I've often found myself completely out of ideas when it came to making dinner, overwhelmed by the "What are we eating?" from my three adorable foodies!
For some time now, I've opted for a simple, healthy, quick recipe that the whole family loves: evening Bibimbap! It's a completely personal and family interpretation of the Korean culinary masterpiece, but one I fully embrace! What matters here, as you'll have understood, is efficiency!
For five people: 2 adults and 3 (hungry) children.
Duration:
Approximately 50 minutes. 30 minutes of preparation and 20 minutes of cooking.
Quantity:
For 5 people
Ingredients:
- 400 grams of short-grain rice
- 5 fresh eggs at room temperature
- 5 teaspoons of sesame oil
- 2 to 5 teaspoons of gochujang (depending on your children's spice tolerance)
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Any pre-cooked canned vegetables (green beans, canned bean sprouts)
Instructions:
- Wash the rice by rubbing the grains to remove some of the starch. Rinse until the water runs clear.
- If you sense a "hungry" or even impatient family atmosphere, this step can be shortened, or even skipped (we leave the responsibility of this decision to the brave parents).
- Cook the rice in a rice cooker on the cooking setting, with 550 ml of water. If you don't have a rice cooker, cook your rice according to the recipe on the product sheet.
- While the rice is cooking, fry 5 beautiful fried eggs in a lightly oiled pan, being careful not to break the yolks! As soon as the whites are opaque, you can stop cooking and set aside.
- When the rice is cooked, let it rest for about ten minutes, covered, then arrange it nicely in 5 bowls.
- For each bowl, place an egg on the rice, then add some vegetables on the sides. Add a teaspoon of sesame oil and gochujang! Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Grab your chopsticks, and mix your bowl. This step is very important, firstly because that's how it's done in Korea, and because it will relax everyone around the table!
- Then take your tablespoon and... enjoy!
See you soon!
