This Korean citron preparation, called yuja-cha (유자차) in Korea, is often translated as “citron tea”. Yuja is an Asian citrus fruit similar to citron and yuzu, with a more floral and less acidic fragrance than a classic lemon.
Its texture is reminiscent of a thick syrup made of candied peel and pulp. In Korea, it is diluted in hot water to prepare a sweet and comforting drink, halfway between an infusion and sweetened, fragrant hot water. Despite its name, this product does not contain tea leaves.
The taste is delicately tart, with natural sweetness and fragrant citrus notes.
How to use citron tea
Pour one to two tablespoons of the preparation into a large cup of hot water. Mix well until completely dissolved, then enjoy. The drink can also be prepared with cold water for a refreshing version.
