This roasted perilla oil — called deul gileum (들기름) in Korean — is produced by Bangyudang in Korea from carefully selected perilla seeds, from the same botanical family as shiso. Roasting gives it an amber color, toasted aromas with a characteristic marine note and a long-lasting flavor — quite different from unroasted perilla oil, which is more herbaceous. 100% perilla, available in 100ml and 200ml.
How to use this roasted perilla oil
This is a cold seasoning oil, never for cooking. It is perfect for rehydrated vegetables — its traditional use in Korean cuisine — as well as on bibimbap or namul. On grilled fish like mackerel, sardines, or bonito, its marine and toasted notes blend naturally. Its aromatic richness means a little goes a long way: a drizzle is enough. Beyond Korean cuisine, it also pairs well with fish carpaccio.
About Bangyudang
Bangyudang has been producing sesame and perilla oils since 1972, initially in a small neighborhood mill, and now with refined expertise and a consistent commitment to roasting quality.
The Bangyudang range
The range comes in four levels of roasting: P1 (perilla, light and fresh), S2 (sesame, mild and nutty), P3 (perilla, rich and round) and S4 (sesame, toasted and intense). Each oil corresponds to a culinary style, from delicate dishes to bold seasonings.
