Nurungji is one of the most iconic preparations in Korean cuisine. Traditionally, this name refers to the layer of slightly toasted rice that forms at the bottom of the pot during cooking. Appreciated for generations for its roasted grain aroma, it is now consumed both as a snack and in the form of an infusion or light soup.

With this black rice and taro version, Misillan offers an original interpretation that preserves the spirit of traditional nurungji while developing a richer aromatic profile.

The combination of black rice and taro

This recipe is made from carefully selected brown rice, black rice, and taro. After cooking, the grains are pressed and then toasted to obtain crispy patties with naturally toasted flavors.

Black rice adds more depth and slightly malty notes, while taro contributes to the overall balance with its characteristic vegetable sweetness. The result remains true to the flavors of traditional nurungji while offering a more complex taste experience.

Like the classic version, this product is not fried and contains no artificial seasoning.

🌾 Misillan – A company specializing in rice processing

Based in Gokseong, South Korea, Misillan specializes in enhancing brown rice and grains cultivated using environmentally friendly practices.

For over twenty years, the company has developed its own processing methods to preserve the natural qualities of the grain and offer simple products focused on ingredient quality. This approach has allowed it to become a reference in Korea in the world of germinated brown rice and cereal products.

The Korean Black Rice & Taro Nurungji is manufactured in an HACCP certified workshop and also benefits from vegan certification.

How to enjoy Korean nurungji?

Nurungji can be enjoyed directly to savor its crispy texture and roasted grain aromas. It pairs perfectly with tea, coffee, or a cereal drink and makes a simple snack at any time of day.

In Korea, it is also traditionally consumed as an infusion. Simply pour hot water over a few pieces and let it steep for a few minutes to obtain a light drink with roasted rice flavors. By prolonging the infusion, the rice gradually rehydrates, allowing you to prepare a particularly comforting nurungji soup.
