These high-quality chili flakes come from South Korea and are packaged by Jook Jang Yeon, to whom we also owe our excellent gochujang.
If you are looking for "chili for kimchi", this is the product you need!
Tips for using gochugaru:
This powder is very frequently used in Korean cuisine as a seasoning for many preparations or dishes, and you will need it for many recipes: kimchi, Jjigae (stews), tteokbokki...
For immediate and simple use, I recommend using it to make a vinaigrette. Add a few teaspoons to a mixture of half water and half rice vinegar, with a tablespoon of sugar, a tablespoon of fish sauce and a few minced garlic cloves!
Gochugaru and spiciness:
On the Scoville scale, this gochugaru is around 2000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), slightly above Espelette pepper or Ancho pepper, but below jalapeño, for example. It's all a matter of taste and sensitivity, but this dried chili powder is obviously strong and powerful, but more of a warm spiciness than a burning one.
